1. Select the ship type
Before purchasing, ask yourself a question: What kind of yacht do I want?
This can be started from your original intention of purchasing the yacht, that is, what activities this yacht will be used for in the future. Such as fishing, water sports, business receptions, overnight cruises, etc. Different activity demands correspond to different types of boats. Of course, the uses of yachts are not singular. However, in any case, what you need to consider is what activities this yacht might be engaged in the most in the future.
2) Regarding this, you can review the yacht classification we posted before and take a look at the characteristics of different types of ships.
Secondly, the number of guests who frequently use this vessel is a factor that largely determines the size of the yacht. Even though the current maximum capacity of domestic yachts is only 12 people, it is possible that this condition will be relaxed at any time.
4) Engine types: Engines are classified into inboard engines, outboard engines, both inboard and outboard engines, jet engines, and sailing-powered sailboats.
A little tip
Fishing: Professional fishing boats
Water sports: speedboats, water skis
Business reception: Bridge-type yachts, yachts over 50 feet
Overnight cruise: It is necessary to bring a cabin (at least two cabins that can accommodate a family's travel are preferred). Although there is very little demand for such activities in China at present, it can still serve as a reference for you.
Sailing Power: Sailboat (Unlimited range)
2. New boats OR second-hand boats
Whether to buy a new boat or a second-hand one is often determined by personal preference and budget.
The benefits of purchasing a new boat
Everyone loves a brand-new and shiny "home". You don't need to worry about whether this boat has any dark history that hasn't been unearthed, because its historical chapters will be written by you.
2) You can purchase the boat you want, including the latest designs, technologies and innovations.
3) If there is a problem with the vessel, the agent or the shipyard will provide warranty services for a certain period of time and within a certain range.
4) Choose any optional equipment on board according to your needs.
Of course, even if it's a new boat, your budget may also influence your choice between an imported one and a domestic one.
The benefits of buying a second-hand boat
The top advantage, of course, is that the wallet won't be hurt too much.
2) You won't be heartbroken for a while over the slightest scratch or scum on the ship either.
3) There may be problems on board that you have not noticed. Therefore, to ensure safety, it is best to hire a professional to conduct a comprehensive hull inspection before signing the formal contract.
4) Important components such as engines may be prone to problems, and the cost of maintenance may be considerable.
3. Collect data and list the optional items
After determining the ship type and budget, it's time to start looking for a suitable partner. The best start is online collection. You can freely browse and compare from aspects such as brand, model and price. In the past, you could also go to a boat show to experience yachts of various brands and sizes on the spot. Liaoning Lanyu Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. is your best choice.
4. Narrow down your choices
After a round of information collection, you must have a group of favorites, but you still need to gradually narrow down your choices. Make the final confirmation based on the following elements:
1) Whether the price, performance, etc. meet expectations: For instance, if the prices are similar, compare the performance, dealer service, domestic past sales volume, etc.
2) Place of purchase: New yacht (It's best if your yacht's mooring location is within the service range of the dealer to avoid some troubles related to warranty in the future); Second-hand yachts: It's best to choose a delivery location close to you. The logistics freight or sailing cost of yachts is not cheap.
3) Time of purchase:
When purchasing ready-made boats near the end of the off-season or peak season, dealers may offer discounts to clear their inventory.
Purchase the soon-to-be-phased models: Pay attention to the new models of the same size that are about to be released by the brand. Shipyards or dealers will, to a large extent, promote the old models to a certain extent in order to sell the new products as soon as possible.
At the boat show, when purchasing smaller models of yachts, some exhibitors might bring ready-to-sell yachts to the exhibition. Of course, they wouldn't want to take the exhibition yachts home. But for this year, the feasibility of this is extremely low.
If it is a large yacht or there are customization requirements, there is no need to consider the time issue. You can start at any time.
Before purchasing, a sea test and inspection should be conducted first
Conducting sea trials by ship should be an important part of the process of purchasing a vessel. However, for beginners, you may not be very clear about what you are looking for during the sea test. Here are several aspects worth your attention:
Create a "realistic" environment on the ship and simulate a day of your future trip.
Make sure to test the performance targets and ask your dealer about the power options.
Play the roles of driver and passenger respectively.
Check the engine setup and consider how to use the boat (for water sports, fishing, etc.)
Make the ship speed exceed 23 nautical miles per hour, make a sharp turn, and if possible, do it in slightly rough sea conditions.
At a speed without bumps, keep the steering wheel centered and pay attention to the state of the vessel maintaining its course.
Enter and exit the sun, and check for glare and reflections.
2) To conduct a more comprehensive assessment, please consider having a friend or professional who is proficient in boats conduct a sea trial together, especially for larger vessels.
6. Complete the transaction
But you should understand that completing the transaction is only the first step for you to start your yacht life. Next, you need to register your yacht and obtain the "three certificates" before you can sail freely at sea. Although there are no mandatory requirements for yacht insurance in China for the time being, for the sake of safety and your wallet, it is recommended that you purchase yacht insurance, at least third-party liability insurance for yachts.
